Applications
With the Amsler Allround heat deflection tester, ZwickRoell offers a motorized HDT/Vicat tester with a fully automated test sequence for determining Vicat softening and heat deflection temperatures up to 300 °C to ISO and ASTM standards:
- Determination of the heat deflection temperature (HDT) according to ISO 75 parts 1 to 3 and ASTM D648 on thermoplastics, ebonite, as well as fiber-reinforced and filled curable plastics.
- Determination of the Vicat softening temperature (VST) according to ISO 306 and ASTM D1525 on thermoplastics and according to ISO 2507 on pipes and fittings made of thermoplastics.
- Determination of creep behavior under bending stress.
The heat deflection tester is designed for convenient testing in the fields of research and development, goods inwards checks and production monitoring. Depending on requirements, the instrument can be equipped with 2, 4 or 6 test stations, allowing HDT and Vicat tests to be carried out in parallel and independently.
The Amsler Allround heat deflection tester can be operated in standalone mode with touch display or in connection with a PC. With the testXpert testing software, a meaningful analysis of the results can be realized.

With an accuracy of +/- 0.002 mm, the high-precision travel measurement provides a high standard of precision over the entire measurement range. The digital output does not drift over time.
Modern oil bath temperature control with a special algorithm, which models the physical properties of the oil bath and guarantees linearity within the specified tolerances. The speed-controlled circulation pump from ZwickRoell guarantees uniform oil temperature across all 6 stations.
The automatic blow-out function removes the remaining cooling water from the appliance's cooling system before each test, thus preventing a negative influence on the heating rates and the result.
User centered design
- Convenient specimen feeding frees up both hands of the operator, enabling them to easily handle the specimen.
- Weights can be added quickly and easily. With just a few clicks, the software displays the weight selection option to make it easier to assemble. The weights are easy to stack and allow the user to handle them safely. For heat deflection temperature tests, ZwickRoell offers weight sets that allow you to make adjustments in 1 g increments, exceeding the requirements of the most demanding standards. For ease of use and simple handling, the individual weight for Vicat softening temperature is limited to 2.039 kg. Specialized standard weights for ISO 75-2 allow the installation of only one weight instead of combining a set of weights. The setup time is significantly reduced.
- A unique design for the heat deflection tester support (one support for three different test dimensions: 64, 100 and 101.6 mm) means that the support itself remains in the device and is always ready for use.
- Fully automatic test sequences intuitively guide the user to reduce the risk of human error. All test standards are included and preconfigured. Standard operating procedures are guaranteed.
- The tests can be set up quickly and easily via the touchscreen in standalone mode. Operators can monitor graphs live and export data easily.

Effortless oil bath control
- The automatic oil condition monitoring system checks the fill level and aging of the oil.
- The oil bath is easily accessible. Dropped specimens are removed within seconds without removing the stations.
- ZwickRoell offers special cages that prevent the specimen from falling into the oil bath.
- Easy oil change – the intelligent design of the oil bath guarantees easy and complete draining of the oil so that no contamination from residues can occur when refilling. Overfill protection prevents contamination of the instrument and the environment.
- The device has a powerful cooling system that quickly lowers the temperature of the oil bath, allowing the operator to start the next test with minimal waiting time and reduced water consumption costs. This requires a direct connection to a water pipe or to a heat exchanger with a closed circuit.
- The shielding gas system comprises a flow control valve and a nozzle. It is used to form a layer of nitrogen over the surface of the oil and prevent the oil from having a chemical reaction with the air.
